Staying at Orbost

Orbost is the main town of this part of East Gippsland, sitting on the flats where the Snowy River runs its last stretch to the sea. It is where you go for the supermarket, the bakery, fuel, the pub and the pharmacy, and it is the eastern end of the East Gippsland Rail Trail.

We are 4 kms west of town at Newmerella, right on the Princes Highway. That is close enough to be in Orbost in a few minutes, and far enough out that you are surrounded by bushland rather than parked beside the main street.

A good base for the area

Most people staying at Orbost are either breaking a long drive on the Princes Highway or using the town as a base to get out into the country around it. Both work well from here. The coast at Marlo is about twenty minutes south, Cape Conran a little further east, and the Snowy River high country runs away to the north.
